Ian has research expertise in the mathematical modelling of strategies for water purification, including membrane filtration and the removal of contaminants via magnetic separation. He collaborates with the Water Desalination Research Centre, KAUST, and the Complex Fluids Group in Princeton University.

Professor Robert Hahn has helped design market-based approaches for water resource management around the world. He is currently conducting a number of field experiments on water conservation and more efficient water management with Dr Robert Metcalfe. His research focuses on institutional design and measuring behavior change.
Dr Sophie Haines

Sophie is an anthropologist interested in natural resource decision-making in contexts of social and environmental change. As part of multi-disciplinary projects including the Oxford Martin Programme on Resource Stewardship (OMPORS), REACH: Improving water security for the poor, and IMPETUS (Improving predictions of drought for user decision making) she has studied the use of scientific information and predictions in resource management and natural disaster preparedness, with a focus on water resources. She has carried out ethnographic fieldwork and interview-based studies in the UK, Belize and Kenya.
