Dr Mohammad Hassan Shakil is a Research Fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, and a Visiting Researcher at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. Before joining NTNU, he served as an Assistant Professor at East Delta University, Bangladesh, and held the position of Assistant Lecturer at Taylor's University (AACSB-accredited), Malaysia, from 2018 to 2021. He completed his MSc in Islamic Finance from INCEIF University (AACSB-accredited), Malaysia, supported by the Islamic Development Bank Group (IDBG) MSc in Islamic Finance Scholarship.
Shakil is recognized among the Top 2% of scientists worldwide in the 2024 Stanford–Elsevier global ranking for his research contributions in Economics & Business and Environmental Sciences. His core research interests include AI and Machine Learning applications in Sustainable Finance.
He is engaged in a research project that investigates the relationship between corporate water use intensity and firm-level financial outcomes. In particular, the study explores how water withdrawal shapes firms’ financial performance and exposure to credit risk.
