Daniel Adshead

DPhil - ITRC

Environmental Change Institute

Daniel’s doctoral research looks at informed decision-making within cross-sectoral infrastructure systems, with a focus on performance indicators, adaptive pathways modelling, and governance structures. He has a research background in development economics and environmental management, and broader interests in sustainable development, water security, and climate adaptation.

Professor Chris Ballentine

Chair of Geochemistry

Department of Earth Sciences

Chris is the Chair of Geochemistry in the Department of Earth sciences and has a broad interest in groundwater interaction with hydrocarbon, helium, nitrogen and carbon-dioxide (CO2-sequestration) multiphase systems. He uses noble gas isotopic tracers to understand groundwater residence and the source of geogenic gases. He is the Oxford PI on a 5 year USGS initiative to identify the impact of historical hydrocarbon production on Californian drinking water supplies.

Farah Colchester

DPhil Researcher

Department of Engineering Science

Farah’s research involves attaching accelerometers to the handles of water pumps in Kenya and analysing the data using machine learning techniques. The aim is to predict the condition of the pump to enable preemptive maintenance, and the depth of the water in the well to monitor the aquifer level in the region over time. Supervisors: Dr Rob Hope and Patrick Thomson
