Aline Ribeiro da Costa Freitas is an environmental lawyer from the Brazilian Amazon and an MSc candidate in Water Science, Policy and Management at the University of Oxford. Her work focuses on water governance, environmental justice, and the effectiveness of legal and institutional responses to environmental harm. Current research examines the post-judgment phase of litigation addressing mercury contamination of water resources in the Amazon, analysing how judicial decisions translate into governance outcomes in practice. Drawing on institutional analysis, she explores the interaction between courts, regulatory bodies, and local actors in implementing environmental remedies. She also has professional experience in public law and environmental litigation within the Brazilian judiciary, as well as in policy-oriented projects related to water governance and environmental protection in the Amazon.
